Best In Show

Untitled by Kristy Batie

This spirited, textured horse portrait took Best in Show at the annual art show put on by the Washington Thoroughbred Foundation in conjunction with the Washington Thoroughbred Breeders & Owners Association and Emerald Downs. Art Show Site

Kristy Shares Her Texture Work.

I used the Lustre texture from  French Kiss Textures 1 at 100%. I then duplicated that layer and changed the blending mode to Multiply and reduced it to 41%.

Next, I placed the horse on top of that layer. I added the Texas Rangertexture fromFrench Kiss Textures 1 and changed the blending mode to Multiply and reduced it to 84%.  I masked most of this layer off the horse.

I then added a hue/ saturation layer and adjusted the saturation to -55.

I added highlights and shadows to the horse on other layers.

The next layer I added the Charmant texture from the French Kiss Artiste Collection and desaturated the color and reduced the opacity to 69%.

Last layer I added a levels layer to that layer only to bring out the detail in the painting strokes.

Kristy printed the final image on Fine Art paper.

Oh, wow…THAT is inspiring. The beautiful horse…the time & effort it took to create such a stunning image…and the joy of following your artistic workflow. Simply wonderful!
